Heart Shaped Pizza

What can be better than a day filled with dough making, pizza baking, and wine sipping? We can’t think of anything either. Pair this homemade dough and sauce recipe with a delicious glass of our J. Lohr Pure Paso™ Proprietary Red Wine and you’ll have the perfect activity for your next date night in.

Yields 2-3 Personal-Sized Pizzas

Ingredients:

  • pizza dough (store bought or homemade recipe below)
  • pizza sauce (store bought or homemade recipe below)
  • 1 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 package of sliced fresh mozzarella cheese
  • fresh basil leaves to taste
  • additional optional toppings: pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, bell peppers, etc.

Instructions:

  1. Place cast iron pan or pizza stone into the oven and pre-heat oven to 500°F.
  2. Knead dough into a heart shape roughly about 8” or the diameter of your pan.
  3. When the oven comes to temperature, pull the pan out of oven and place dough into the pan.
  4. Spread 1 Tbsp of olive oil and 2-4 Tbsp of pizza sauce.
  5. Add a few slices of mozzarella cheese; add additional toppings to taste.
  6. Bake the pizza for 12-14 minutes, until the crust is golden brown.
  7. Slice and pair with a glass of J. Lohr Pure Paso™ Proprietary Red Wine.


Pizza Dough

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cups warm water
  • 2 tsp. sugar, divided
  • 1 package (1/4 oz.) active dry yeast
  • 3 ½ to 4 cups 00 or bread flour
  • 1 tsp. sea salt
  • 1 tsp. each dried basil, oregano and rosemary
  • 1/3 cup olive oil

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, mix warm water and 1 tsp. of sugar.
  2. Add yeast and whisk until dissolved Let the mixture sit until bubbles form (roughly 10 minutes).
  3. In a large bowl, mix 3 cups of flour, salt, herbs, and 1 tsp. of sugar.
  4. Stir dough until smooth.
  5. Move dough onto a floured surface.
  6. Knead with additional flour until dough is no longer sticky (roughly 7 minutes).
  7. Place dough into a large greased bowl.
  8. Cover dough and let it rise on the counter or table for 30 minutes.
  9. Move dough to the refrigerator for at least 3 hours (overnight is best).
  10. Allow dough to come to room temperature before rolling.


Pizza Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 tablespoon each dried oregano, basil and rosemary

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, mix warm water and 1 tsp. of sugar.
