2021 J. Lohr Gesture Viognier

The 2021 J. Lohr Gesture Viognier offers aromas of gardenia, white peach, nectarine, and Meyer lemon - complemented by the rich, balanced palate of lemon custard and ripe orange flavors, and a long, textured finish.

Vineyard & Vintage

The grapes for the Gesture Viognier were grown on our Gean Vineyard in the Adelaida District of western Paso Robles. With a climate nearly identical to that of the northern Rhône, combined with well-drained soils of calcareous shale and weathered sandstone, this vineyard’s terroir is a perfect match for Viognier. The warm days with southern and western exposures on this hillside property help to naturally develop ripe, lush flavors, while the cool nights allow for long hangtime, giving the wine power and depth.

There are many subtle differences in the two different sites where Viognier is grown at Gean: Block 5 in the southern part of the ranch brings citrus and strong floral notes; Block 14 to the north provides aromas of lavender, lychee, and spice. Maturity, which is so important for this variety, was reached at 25.6° Brix while retaining excellent acidity. Harvest took place on September 8th for Block 14 and September 14th at Block 5.
