What wine tasting experiences does J. Lohr offer? 

 J. Lohr offers curated wine tasting experiences in Paso Robles, California and San Jose, California. Guests can choose a mixed tasting featuring both red and white wines, including small-lot, winery-exclusive selections not available at retail or in restaurants. A red wine tasting experience focuses on Bordeaux-style wines, highlighting the award-winning J. Lohr Cuvée Series and Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Guests visiting as a group may select different tasting options, making it easy to compare wines and explore a range of J. Lohr varietals during one visit.

Is J. Lohr family owned? 

Yes. J. Lohr is a family-owned and operated California winery. Founder Jerry Lohr, along with his children—Steve Lohr, Cynthia Lohr, and Lawrence Lohr—continue to lead the business. The Lohr family remains actively involved in vineyard stewardship, winemaking, sales, marketing, and hospitality across Paso Robles, Monterey County, and Napa Valley.

What wines are J. Lohr known for? 

J. Lohr is best known for its Cabernet Sauvignon wines from Paso Robles and its Chardonnay wines from the Arroyo Seco AVA in Monterey County. The J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon and the J. Lohr Hilltop Cabernet Sauvignon are both as top examples of Paso Robles quality and consistency. The J. Lohr Estates Riverstone Chardonnay and the J. Lohr Arroyo Vista Chardonnay are well-known for their authentic Monterey cool-climate character. 

What is the difference between the J. Lohr Paso Robles and San Jose tasting rooms?  

The J. Lohr Paso Robles Wine Center offers a classic wine country experience with vineyard views, a covered veranda, and outdoor patio seating, ideal for guests exploring the wineries of the Paso Robles region. The J. Lohr San Jose Wine Center provides a more urban, historic tasting room experience in downtown San Jose, featuring small-lot and winery-exclusive wines in a more intimate setting.
Both locations are known for welcoming hospitality, guided tastings, and wine education.

Are reservations required at J. Lohr? 

Reservations are not required at J. Lohr tasting rooms, but they are recommended for seated wine tastings, especially during weekends, holidays, and peak travel periods. Booking in advance at jlohr.com/visit helps ensure availability and a relaxed tasting experience.

Is J. Lohr dog friendly? 

Yes, J. Lohr is a dog-friendly winery in Paso Robles and San Jose. Guests are welcome to bring well-behaved, leashed dogs to outdoor seating areas at both tasting room locations.

Does J. Lohr offer food pairings? 

J. Lohr offers cheese and charcuterie boards designed to pair with its wines at both Wine Centers. In Paso Robles, cheese boards are available with advance reservation, while in San Jose, they are often available for purchase during your visit. J. Lohr also regularly hosts seasonal wine and food pairing events and winemaker dinners, offering elevated tasting experiences.

J. Lohr farms its sustainable, estate vineyards in three of California’s top wine regions: Paso Robles, Monterey County, and Napa Valley. In Paso Robles. J. Lohr vineyard sites span the Adelaida, Creston, El Pomar, Estrella, and San Miguel Districts sub-appellations. In Monterey County, J. Lohr vineyards are located in the Arroyo Seco appellation. In Napa Valley, J. Lohr’s Carol’s Vineyard is in the St. Helena appellation.

What makes J. Lohr wines sustainable? 

J. Lohr wines are crafted using Certified California Sustainable farming and winemaking practices. All J. Lohr wines bear the Certified California Sustainable seal on their back labels, attesting that at least 85% certified sustainable-grown grapes were used in the wine and that the wine was crafted in a certified-sustainable winery in California. This reflects J. Lohr’s long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible vineyard and winemaking management.

Are J. Lohr tasting rooms kid friendly? 

To ensure a comfortable experience for all guests, we ask that children be included in your reservation headcount so our team can properly plan seating. During your visit, children are required to remain seated with their parents or guardians, as our tasting rooms are designed for relaxed, seated wine experiences. Please note that we are working winery and that neither location offers open play areas or space for children to roam. For added convenience, guest WiFi is available, making it easy for families to bring devices to keep children entertained during their visit.

Is parking readily available at J. Lohr? 

Yes, J. Lohr Wine Centers in Paso Robles and San Jose offer guest parking, with different options at each location. The Paso Robles Wine Center provides plentiful on-site parking, including an overflow lot for busy days. The San Jose Wine Center offers limited parking in a private lot, with additional street parking available along Lenzen Avenue. For both locations, ride share services are recommended if you do not have a designated driver. Ride share pickup and drop-off is easily accessible directly in front of each Wine Center, providing a convenient and safe transportation option.

What is your latest wine tasting of the day?

To enjoy our full seated wine tasting experience, we recommend arriving at least 1.5 hours before closing time. This allows ample time to relax and enjoy the tasting at a comfortable pace. If you arrive later than this window, we may still be able to accommodate an abridged tasting experience up to 45 minutes before closing, based on availability. Wine purchases are available until closing time, so you’re always welcome to stop in and select your favorites.
