Our Touching Lives Story

J. Lohr is Touching Lives for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Beyond

J. Lohr is in its ninth year of its Touching Lives campaign, in partnership with the National Breast Cancer Foundation. In 2009, J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines partnered with NBCF and designated the 2005 J. Lohr Carol’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon a commemorative release in honor of J. Lohr founder Jerry Lohr’s late wife Carol, who passed away in 2008 due to complications from breast cancer.

Since the program’s inception, sales from both J. Lohr Carol’s Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc and J. Lohr Carol’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon have supported early breast cancer detection and awareness through mammograms. In addition to our recent milestone of surpassing the funding of 5,000 mammograms, J. Lohr and NBCF are partnering to fund Patient Navigation programs.  These programs empower women to better understand their health and get access to the services they need at hospitals and at community events across the United States. Trained “patient navigators” help guide women through health care barriers to ensure timely diagnosis, treatment, and support. In 2016 alone, NBCF helped fund 36 Patient Navigation programs, supporting 74,338 total mammograms and 237,775 overall service touchpoints.

This year is National Breast Cancer Foundation’s 25th anniversary and an exciting new initiative has begun.  HOPE Kits—which provide comforting items and encouraging gifts—are being sent to women in need at NBCF-partner hospitals; they are a tangible way to show compassion and support for women undergoing breast cancer treatment. J. Lohr is an active steward of this program and will fundraise for HOPE Kit Packing Parties to help disseminate these items to women in local community hospitals.

Both of these award-winning, limited releases speak to their Napa Valley origins. The C.V. Sauvignon Blanc recently received a “94 Points” rating at the Ultimate Wine Challenge.
