San Jose, Calif. – August 18, 2022J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines is proud to announce that it has been named one of the Top 100 Wineries of 2022 by Wine & Spirits Magazine. 2022 marks the eighteenth year that Wine & Spirits has celebrated the world’s best wineries with a top-100 list that spans a who’s who of the greatest wineries around the globe. Winners were selected based on the exceptional quality of their wines and their performance in the magazine’s blind-tasting process. As one of the acclaimed wineries that performed at the top of Wine & Spirits’ tastings, J. Lohr will participate in the magazine’s annual Top 100 Tasting in San Francisco on October 132022

When honoring J. Lohr as one of the Top 100 Wineries of 2022, Wine & Spirits stated that J. Lohr impressed our panels and critics with a collection of wines that bested the competition within its region,” while further noting that J. Lohr’s wines showed off their regional distinctions beautifully.” To compile their list of the Top 100 Wineries, the Wine & Spirits editorial team tasted and assessed close to 10,000 wines from around the world. Of the wineries selected for the Top 100 Wineries of 2022, 23 are from California. Of the California wineries honored, J. Lohr is one of nine from California’s Central Coast.

The J. Lohr story is rooted on California’s Central Coast. In 1972, when most California wine exploration focused on Napa Valley and California’s more northern wine country, Jerry Lohr chose a different path when he planted J. Lohr’s first Monterey County estate vineyards. He then followed with his original Paso Robles vineyards in the mid-1980s. Today, guided by Jerry’s belief in the absolute importance of estate vineyards, J. Lohr has assembled the most impressive estate program of any Central Coast winery, which today features 2,600+ acres in Paso Robles and 1,400+ acres in Monterey County’s Arroyo Seco and Santa Lucia Highlands appellations. Crafted from these grapes, J. Lohr’s acclaimed appellation-designated wines have introduced millions of wine enthusiasts around the world to the charm and beauty of wines from Paso Robles and Monterey County — helping make these regions, and the name J. Lohr, known throughout the world.

As a multigenerational, family-run winery approaching our 50th anniversary, it is a very special honor to be included on such an illustrious list of the world’s best wineries,” said J. Lohr President & CEO Steve Lohr. We have always taken great pride in crafting wines that express the charm and character of our home on the Central Coast, so it’s particularly gratifying to be singled out for making wines that embody the essence of our regions. We are thrilled to be in such great company on this year’s Top 100 list, and we have been particularly happy to see several fellow Central Coast wineries make the list the last few years. It reflects what a dynamic and exciting time this is for Central Coast winemaking.”
