Pure Paso Bottle Image

Uniquely Paso Robles, Authentically J. Lohr

J. Lohr Pure Paso artfully blends Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah – two J. Lohr benchmark varieties – into a unique proprietary red wine. The two varieties have long been intertwined in J. Lohr’s winegrowing history and, in particular, the Lohr family’s pioneering efforts in the Paso Robles region.

“For being a larger production winery, J. Lohr continually produces lush and delicious wines that continue to define the Paso Robles potential. This new blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec begins with strawberry, violet and baking spice on the nose, while the palate’s creamy mouthfeel carries mocha, cappuccino, caramel and black cherry flavors. There’s just enough tannic firmness to the lush profile. Editors’ Choice.”

Pioneering Paso Robles

The very first J. Lohr commercial release in 1974 was a Petite Sirah. And it was the search to find ideal conditions for growing Cabernet Sauvignon that led Jerry and his team to Paso Robles in the mid-1980s. More than thirty years of Family, Place, and Craft in Paso Robles have given J. Lohr a unique perspective on the region. That experience allows us to explore projects that speak directly to the appellation’s history, character, and sense of place.

Winemaker’s Notes

“The Cabernet Sauvignon component was selected from highly pigmented blocks, primarily from Shotwell. We chose Petite Sirah fruit that demonstrated a jammy, blackberry character and saturated color from the Home Ranch. Missouri-sourced oak from coopers Demptos and Nadalie provided a torrefaction and roasted lactone barrel signature. The final blend is a balance of the two primary varieties, so that neither has a dominant character; they harmonize.”
