Our Vineyards

J. Lohr’s focus on achieving the best possible flavors in our wines begins with careful stewardship of the land, a tenet we take to heart in the management of our 3,000 acres of estate vineyards located predominantly along California’s acclaimed Central Coast.  We choose vineyard sites for their microclimates, soil composition and suitability to nourish specific varietals, and we strategically select clones for planting. We nurture and fine-tune each vineyard with diligent attention to irrigation, canopy management and cluster thinning to achieve proper vine balance. By employing viticultural best practices which have been tested and verified during Winemaker Jeff Meier’s 26 years with J. Lohr, Jeff and Red Winemaker Steve Peck are able to maximize fruit flavors from each vineyard, resulting in balanced wines of extraordinary depth and varietal character.

Our three winegrowing regions—Paso Robles in San Luis Obispo County, Arroyo Seco in Monterey County, and St. Helena, located in the heart of Napa Valley—offer distinct attributes which influence the flavors in all our  wines. We highlight the uniqueness of each region in this section.
