Taste and compare several types of Chardonnay. Learn about soil and climate as factors in growing chardonnay. Discuss factors affecting differing styles and varietal character. We have developed a tasting format that allows you to sample some of the finest examples of Chardonnay from various appellations. The Chardonnays selected for this tasting were chosen on the basis of consistently high quality standards for a price category and appellation. During the symposium we discuss how various winemaking practices such as Malo-Lactic Fermentation, Extended Oak Aging, and Lees Contact Stirring increase flavor and complexity in Chardonnay.
This is the first varietal appreciation course in the Wine 102 Series which will be followed by Merlot Appreciation and Cabernet Sauvignon Appreciation.
